Whistling noise under driving conditions

Postby Fazerdenzil » Mon Jul 13, 2026 8:59 pm

Hi all. I have a new noise after towing a trailer 1 way 25miles with a car on board, return journey 25miles empty trailer. The noise a kind of whistling comes on under driving conditions only at around 2000 revs, possibly when the turbo cuts in! I & my brother thought it could be a dpf problem after the towing. So today I took my Mk7 2.2 for a 20mile blast to see if the noise would clear, it didn't! It kinda sounds like the noise when your exhaust stuffing is being blown out if you know that noise! I'm a bit worried but their is no lack of power & the Mk7 runs fine. Does anyone have a clue of what it is please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance

More than likely you've got a split boost pipe....between the turbo/intercooler/inlet manifold....or possibly even a split inlet manifold, although this is unlikely.

2nd wot his lordship said above.
Boost pipes be the first easiest thing to check.

Exhaust can be checked visually and differential pressure can be read in Forscan (or other good diagnostics) live data.
But if the PCM was seeing an abnormal difference it would flag a fault.

Thank you both. After taking off & inspecting the hose on the turbo side not finding any hole/split, I inspected the other side (nearside uk) I found a hole where the hose touches a frame! I'm guessing the bit of rubber on the frame that's supposed to protect the hose is also had it! Photo's attached. Does anyone please have a part number for this hose? It looks a bit of a pain to fit too, of cause!!

You've not told us what year model and engine PS you have. Euro-4 or Euro-5..??

All Euro-4 2.2's are FWD...but Euro-5 2.2 can also be FWD & RWD..!

Use catcar.info to find part numbers. They have exploded drawings and after putting your van info in using the drop down menus it should be pretty easy to get what you need.

all the above , think the gang has covered the usual suspects as for sharp edge protection for hoses, pipes, and wiring i use rubber fuel hose or rubber coolant pipes like heater hose cut to length and then cut down full length so you can slot onto sharp edge and if not tight enough to hold onto the sharp edge then bit of sealer or silicone squeezed into hose should hold in place.......

Thanks guys. I found the part number & a new hose is on its way! I'll definitely look at ways to stop a hole from appearing again thanks. It's a 2014 115 350t rwd h3 L3, being converted by myself. Thanks guys
