newbie questions - what model is my mk2!?

just been lucky enough to win a transit mk2 off ebay, sorry if i was bidding against anyone here!

trying to get quotes for insurance and i'm struggling with the model of the van

its a 1985 swb mk2 - single wheels at the rear normal low roof 2.0 litre pinto engine. i think it was a minibus new as it has windows all round.

is that a 100, 110, 120 etc etc? on they seem to ask if its a parcel van too?

gladiator insurance are cheapest so far, any others to look out for?

dont worry about the price - mabe a touch more than i would have valued it at but like you say if its as good as it looks you'll be happy
ive spent about £3-£4K on a van i paid £500 for

looks a solid van, get it waxoiled sort the little rusty bits out and you'll have a top mk2

as far as the origanal question what does it say on the log book

i'll have a look what mine says as it was origanally a minibus too

yours was origanally a minibus too but as you dont have all the seats in its probly best not to insure it as one i think they are more

thanks for the replies guys, i'm looking at a diy lpg conversion at the mo, but yeah apart from that its should be easy cheap to maintain and run.

ive been looking at spending 3k on a vito for ages for weekend trips to the coast to carry my windsurfing kit, this came up and i just couldnt resist!


once i get the lpg in there'll be no reason not to get a v6 in there either!

has anyone had experience of getting a diy conversion certified by the lpga? i design engines for a living so i feel competent in installing it lol but they need it for insurance purposes...

Looks a fair price, with a little bit of tax and 8 months test and all those new parts/work it won't take much to make a really nice van. She's Mk2 phase2.

the pick up was successful

the van has made it to gwithian (cornwall) then to plymouth and hopefully back to the midlands tomorrow, the brakes are very juddery at high speed and the timing is way too retarded - cant get above 60 and slow to 35-40 up hills
annoying as i got the train to pick it up so couldnt bring any tools, considering buyin a set of spanners tomorrow just to loosen the dizzy and advance it a little for the journey back, its already blown a hole in the rear silencer due to the extra heat i expect

on another note did transits come with uniroyals as standard, i think mine may be on the original tyres! with 35k miles it woul make sense and they are very cracked and old looking, anyone know of any tyres that have failed due to age!? im thinking it may be wise to replace the tyres before i find some wellers - which may take some time.....

Old tyres can fail, the results of which are inconvienient at best, and rather unpleasent otherwise....

Did you work out what model she was ? Shes too long to be a 90 or 100, and the lack of double rears rule out 190 (and 150 ?) - so I'd guess a Tranny 120 ?
