interior screw fittings

I'm about to stick some ply down in the rear of my van along with perhaps a few brackets to build a shelf.

Any tips on what size, make, style screws I should use into the steel of my van? and i was thinking, do i need rubber washers? would i need to drill holes first?

i've a general idea of how to do this, i just thought i'd get a few tips first.

I would deffinatly go with stainless for a start, I predrilled mine, although I also used some of those tec screws with the drill bit on the end, but they corroded a little. screwfix.com 200 stainless screw from around a £5 inclusive. If your going through the floor the spray a little waxoil over the screws from underneath. Less greif later.
The only problem with stainless screws is they are a little bit brittle if you over tighten them, but perfect for the van

Pan head self tappers are the sort commonly used for ply lining

i would grip-fill the floor ply down, so there is no hole's for the rust then

Yes def grip fill for the floor, and if you want shelves put your side wall ply vertical, and then make sure the shelves are angled upwards by about 20 degrees. You'll be amazed what can fall off. I used MDF for the side supports of the shelving (as opposed to individual brackets). This allows you to shape the sides, tapering inwards toward the top of the van. Then just glue/screw strips of hardwood to make runners for your shelf of ? whatever material you choose
