Need a new van but which one?

Postby 29mc29 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 9:34 pm

Hi,you may know that I had a mark 5 ford transit semi automatic, I posted a topic on it a few months ago having problems with changing gear etc. Anyway the problem couldnt be rectifyed by my local ford dealer and have given up on it. So ive been looking at some van with approximately 110k miles on the clock.But which engine is reliable with such a mileage? I need the van to last, not like my last van which i bought from brand new and it had only done 33k miles :o absolutely gutted.Many Thanks

i would say buy another mk5, im no professional but all i can say is all engines are reliable on the transits and there all NOT reliable, It just depends on who’s been driving the van, how regularly it has been serviced, etc the usually crack as most people will tell you 110k is nothing for a diesel engine. I would say find a good mk5 out there low mileage, rust free etc. :)

It seems like you don't really require the AUTOCLUTCH feature :!:

:idea: Why don't you convert it to a conventional clutch :?:

And that will be the end of your problem on what is a very low mileage van :!: :D

How much have you been offered as a trade in :?:

Sorry, busy running around on here :!: :lol:

Well I've never had the pleasure of having a look underneath an AUTOCLUTCH van to confirm if you can do it with the gearbox you have or not :!:

:idea: This will be something for you to look into OR to be sure;
Buy a scrapper that has a good manual transmission that you can pinch all the necessary bits including;
Pedal box and clutch cable :!:
Gearbox assembly and maybe the cross member :!:

You will be removing quite a lot of stuff from your current van as it will no longer be needed :!:
The autoclutch electrics will no longer be required and will need to be disabled/removed as necessary so as not to cause any electrical concerns/fires :!: :wink:

I think you'll find it should be quite straight forward :!:
