Notify DVLA?

Ive just fitted five seats into the back of my 190, do I need to notify DVLA of the change? It had two seats fitted in the back when I bought it, but it doesn't say anything on the v5. Its insured as an eight seater.

personally i wouldnt bother if it was MOT'd like that and the insurance know then i'd leave it

These things only normally become a problem in the event of an accident. It's up to you if you want to find out then or now.

To be honest i would only inform them if your using the van as minibus / day van for the family. If just using for work i wouldn't bother. You wouldn't want the insurance people voiding your insurance through the vehicle changing seating capacity. What is it registered as now?

As far as I know its registered as a normal van. Before I bought it, someone had added a double rear seat and side windows. Ive added another three and I use it for personal and family use only. It is insured as a modified van with 5 extra seats (8 seater).

If the insurance people are aware of the added seats i wouldn't bother with DVLA.

no inspection needed.i had 6 seats fitted in back of myn,informed dvla docs came back still as van but with 8 seats fitted inc drivers seat.best notified.

It's the insurance company you have to worry about, as long as they are happy there won't be a problem. Why make paperwork for your self?

You can fit as many seats in the back that you can get insurance for.

hen you get to the MOT station the reg number will tell them what they are testing, in your case a van, so they will not and more importantly have no right to go in the back. If is, I am assuming yours is classed as a panel van, then they do not go into the 'cargo' area, full stop.

Just get your insurance sorted though, for the sake of your own passengers. Also worth bearing in mind that if you have a non fault accident and you are running seats in the back and not told them you will be flucked. Just let your insurance know as a 'mod' and stay under 8 seats inc driver (some companies do 9). Also fit the seats with belts, legally you only need belts on front facers, but you can get custom seats with built in inertia's, search on Ebay, loads safer.
