Well done on the job pal!! Thats a pretty hefty insurance quote i take it you're under 25?..........I guess being an old B@$7@?D does have some advantages Try your local timber merchants for sheet ply. It's much cheaper than B&Q and you can somtimes get damaged sheets at discounted rates

Yeah - im only 22 (23 at the end of June) which indeed is why the price was so high. That, added to the fact I have no no-claims bonus, and its a van - they all rose the price for me

Regarding the wood, thanks for the tip, they were only £2.88 each, and I know where B&Q is! I don't know where the wood yard is in Swansea, or if there even is one! It was only hardboard anyway, no plyboard. Wanted it to be as thin/cheap as possible to help with those extra cm's of space

If you want cheap subs get down to halfords they got some bargains at the moment, i got a Mutant twin 10" sub box with subs for £30

P.S at 19 my insurance was only £850 on a MK3 SWB

Yeah mate Van insurance is a F00kin' Rip off!! and it costs so much that you don't want to claim on it! I've got a 350cc dirt bike and its £100 per year fully comp when it got stolen buy the local "youth" i had to claim the cost of the bike, when the police found the bike it was in a pretty bad state but with a bit of tlc and a lot off money it's better than ever! I was worried that my insurance would go sky high but the same company quoted me £110 per yer fully comp if only tranny's were that cheap to insure!

i seem to think transits are better then cars ie for a car up to a 1.6 petrol is 1800 and for a transit its only 1689.00

so not to bad and that for me on provsional and age 18/19

The internal door handle arrived today!
It's now fitted and working perfectly.

Today I hope to finish the panels that are already in (some need a few extra drill holes to secure them to the frame) as well as fitting the safe to the van properly.

I also need to ring round courier companies to get quotes for getting my bench seat to me.
It's gotta be cheaper than the petrol of me getting it.

Well thats a damn site cheaper than the petrol cost

All the local motorist discount type places including halfrauds will have end of line deals if you ask, dont forget you wont need a massively powerfull system in a van as the acoustics are better than any car You can get decent sound for relatively little money

I just got rescued by the RAC
Battery cut out... at the front of traffic lights... at Junction 45 of the M4

Turns out the alternator I got as a replacement is screwed. There's no charge getting back to the battery at all.
Which is oddly enough what caused me to get a replacement in the first place.

So we had to wait for about 15 minutes for the RAC man, whilst everyone was beeping and pulling up behind us.

Now thinking for selling the van as spares or repairs as it really is quite knackered.
Which is such a shame seeing as the amount of work I feel I have put in.
We could just get another alternator, however the van needs lots of welding (loads of rust) and I'm not sure if it will pass the MOT in August.

I could really do with a nice running Mk5.

You cant scrap a van just cos there's a charging problem

Have you checked the wiring to the battery? If you werent so far away I would bring you an alternator. Can you take it back?

I would suggest you fully charge the battery and take it for an MOT before spending any more, you will know that way if its worth saving or not
