Speedo cable

Hi all I have a Mk5 Di and the speedo has stoped working ??
I looked behind the dash but there seems to be no cable only wires

Any ideas ? sorry not got a manual yet lol

From memory yours is a 98 non-turbo Di which is the same as mine and from what I recall I have a cable, so haven't got a clue.

yes it is a 98 non-turbo Di i have checked again and there is only two sets of wires which plug into the back

Have you checked the fuses?

Yes checked all fuses and all ok

When you had the instrument pod out did you check to see if there were any burnt out tracks on the PCB?

is this a later speedo with electric speedo drive????? as our 98 hicube has got the electric speedo drive it is a turbo but has the ordinary speedo no rev counter

I guess it is the new one as there is no cable, yes i looked at it and there seems to be no burnt bits anywhere, i was thinking of getting a new instrument pod but the mileage would be out and it may be gearbox end or wherever it reads the speed/mileage ?

Could be the speedo pick up on the gearbox, the only other thing to say is check your wires.

do you know where the speedo pick up on the gearbox is i had a look but it has a cover around the gearbox and i didn't want to pull it off if i can get to the wires,??

hello ther mate does your clock pod not have a recess in the back for a speedo

looked at me mt75 electric speedo box today and it was on the other side!! so check both sides

The VSS is indeed on the passenger side of the transmission at the rear end of the box,

Are you sure you checked all the fuses on the bottom row of the fuse box?
from memory, some transits had incorrectly labeled fuse box lids and the speedo symbol on the lid was 1 fuse or so out of position.

The speedo head itself is a known failure point though.
