Polish

Hi all,

Any recommendations for a quality polish? I promised Valsheda the new Tourneo would be getting plenty of tlc, so time to stock up the car care shelf I think!

Just been looking at a few online shops and the range is staggering, so looking for a few recommendations. Fatha uses Autoglym on his Pajero and that seems to come up very nicely. I've also followed a few threads by valeter/refinisher type guys on here and their results always impress me - the recent pics of the Transit Connect particularly so. They always seem to do half panels with a clean edge between before and after so you can see the difference. Do those guys use off the shelf type stuff or are there commercial brands that are better?

Basically, the new Tourneo has been very well looked after and I want to keep it looking that way, so something that will protect the finish and give a really deep gloss is what I'm after.

Whaddya think?

i use colour magic on the car as it does and it also seems to cover over scratches etc.

Have a look here http://www.meguiars.co.uk/ I have been using their NXT tech wax today on my Sportvan, excellent stuff!
There is also a forum & advice on the site & most of the products can be bought from Halfords!

would go with the autoglym to be honest as it brings the vogue up mint. Just make sure you use the right clothes as it's these that cause the scratches not the polish.

autoglym all the way, i have used alot of their products, vinyl care (brill for soft tops, shampoo, tyre dressing, leather care etc and I must say I would never switch over to anything else, ive used, its more expensive then other products out there but its well worth the money.
Halfords have a very good product is well it’s a dark green bottle quite expensive cant remember the name this is also a very good product.
But autoglym is the way forward.

I agree that autoglym is good stuff, I have used it for many years now, just been using their leather care cream this afternoon. The difference I noticed with the Meguiars NXT is no dusty residue which a lot of polishes leave. And a hell of a shine!!

I had a quick look at the forum on the Meguiars site....... Never crossed my mind that it would be such a huge subject and so technical.. Their technical sections are about as involved as on here

I must admit that I've often liked the look of a vehicle if I've given it a polish - but the guys on there seem to regard the polishing etc as the main point of enjoyment! To be honest I've generally found it a bit of a ballache, but one of those things you have to do once in a while (or blue moon - whichever comes last ) These guys are going round the whole car about five times with different products and clays and waxes and gawd knows what! One even asked if he would damage the top coats by using his polishing regime of about six different treatmentsTOO OFTEN!!

Hmmm - starting to wonder about NATO colours now......something nice and ermm.........MATT!!

Only kidding - might borrow some of fatha's Autoglym and see how she comes up.

Well if you want the stuff the pros use then you'll find it at Clean Your Car. The Chemical Guys stuff is very good and easy to use. Have a look over on Detailing World for all the guides and info you'll ever need.

It doesn't take the scratches out Anthony, it fills them, until the next wash I used to think AG was the dogs wot sits, but I know better now.

I use meguiars, TBH, its a once or at best twice yearly job as I hate doing it but its worth it as it makes summer insects farr easier to clean off the bonnet!
