That really does look like an alternative to the expensive Dynamat :!: :D
I'll buy some of that too :!: and post back how it compares :!: :D

So the 4 available will soon be 3 :!:

:? :? :? :? Why don't they recommend it for the roof :?: :?:

Thanks to Altransit :D  He got me the "eDead" dynamat which seemed and actually was a lot cheaper than the Dynamat Xtreme :!:

However, it's fair to say that it is more comparable to the Wicks Hi-Tack flashing strip :!: :o :x

My conclusion are:

There is NO comparison or competition for the more expensive Dynamat Xtreme :!:

The Wickes roof flashing is simply a more smelly version of eDeads dynamat :!:
The weight and thickness of these two are very similar :!:

When you tap the panels on the van, you can easily tell which are the ones done with Dynamat Xtreme :!:

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR :!: :!: :!:

Approx costs (this is because of postage allowance or going to get it)

Wicks = £1 per square ft

eDeads dynamat = £1.80 per square ft

Dynamat Xtreme = £3.75 per square ft

Brilliant thread and a good read. Kind of makes you feel satisfied that you have done something worthwhile without even leaving the sofa.

Don't you think your van needs waxoyling again. Could do with a similar thread on that.

Dinitrol will do. Just don't forget the camera.

Do like the van by the way. Can't understand why I keep buying them new, especially at the price?

Does your stereo sound better with all the work you've done?

There's no doubt that brand new vans "on the road" and with toys, cost a lot of money :!:
But you are paying for the latest technology amongst other things :D

They've been available since the MK1 :!: :o :D

Shame Ford has stopped producing a proper automatic since 2000 :!:

They were a relatively "expensive" option on the "standard" MK5 van @£1500+vat  BUT you did get; a 4 speed overdrive transmission with a lock up torque converter, a Turbo diesel engine and twin batteries for the price :D

They tried to "economise" with the MK6 by fitting an Auto Shifting Manual box, but were terrible to drive and park and also weren't exactly the most reliable
What made matters worse, was the fact that nobody seemed to be able to fix them :o

So we now don't have any new ones with auto :(

Perhaps now that we have the latest Mondeo with a 6 speed auto, we may see one in the near future :?:

Hi buddy,

I had just purchased some edead when i read your post last week about how its not that good! but anyway i have lined the floor as you have done, i then found some dynamat on ebay for £101 fro usa, that turned up yesterday.

I have double layered edead around the gearbox and added a third layer of dynamat, i have also done the same with the arches. Would you suggest double layering in the foot wells too?

With regard to the engine bay; did you put a single layer of dynamat on or a double? Has it all stuck ok now you have used it?

How much differance has all this made when the van is at 70? Do you still need ear plugs
Or can you actually have a conversation with the passanger?

Cheers, will

No need to double layer the proper "Dynamat Xtreme" as it "loads" the panel well :!: :D

In the engine bay the Dynamat Xtreme went on first, (not an easy job as the bulkhead is a very strange shape as you will find out and also has a built in "funnel" like drainage type thing going on, so paid particular attention NOT to block it and worked around it as best as I could)

It must be fully pressed/make full contact :!: (no air gaps between the mat and the panel) I used a B & Q wallpaper roller to achieve this :!: :D

Then on top of that went the E dead Techlite sound absorbing foam :D

Then I fitted the original Ford Transit pads back on to make it look "standard" :!:

The Ford stuff never went all the way up to the top as I've done with the Dynamat and Techlite :!:

The thing to remember is; The dynamat "loads" the panel and stops it vibrating and amplifying noises :!:
The Techlite absorbs noises :D So the two together and done the way I have, seems to work quite well :!: :D

Remember, I've not finished yet :!: :o

At 70mph my ladders howl and you can certainly hear them now :!: :o
So a roof rack air deflector is on order and I will be taping up the holes that the steps on the ladder have, to help quieten them down :!:

Haven't done the step wells yet :!: And I can hear road noise generated by the tyres coming from that area :!:

Still got the B pillars to deal with too :!:

Then want do deal with the Steel load area bulkhead that does reflect noise straight back into your ears/head :!:

So the project is far from over   :D
