Replacement Radiator Mk1

Hi All,
Can you buy Rads that fit off the shelf?

I did a post search and someone suggested a Mk4 or 5 Cortina or a Granada (Mk2?) Has any one fitted a new Rad to a Mk1 lately?

Mines a'71 SWB Van with the 60's type front panel. standard 2.0 V4
petrol. The current Rad works well but has localised fin damage. core is good.

If you can wait a little while you can get yours re cored. That's what we did and in the meantime fitted a 2L pinto one. BUT the hoses are different bores so we had to cut the originals up and join them with another pipe and jubilee clips (looks a bit odd, but works a treat!) Now sadly we can't fit the reconned V4 rad as we needed new hoses!

Maybe it's the german V4 and transerbia made a typo

Wolverhampton Radiators in Bilston do a great service at recores, not too far away from you, and reasonably priced too.

By the time you have foud a second hand jobby, and possibly modified pipes etc, they could have it recored, tested and done. I got quoted I beleive £85 to get my Thames rad recored

There is a new Ford one on Ebay at moment but not for V4 they say

Are the heater hoses (the ones that come through the bulkhead)
the same on Mk1 and 2?

Sorry I will get those hoses one day, and with 2 V4s on the road at the moment I will need it sooner or later! By heater hoses do you mean the rubber hose or the metal ones from the heater matrix? The rubber ones are generic, but the heater matrix is unique to the Mk1.

the taunus used a 2litre v6 it was i believe a cologne lump i only know this as a chap i know has a
mk 5 cortina sat in the shed ready to go back on the road

Fred, I'm talking rubber, there's one on Ebay at present so Ill go for that even if the blurb says Mk2

You can fit the Mk2 rad, but the hoses are different bores as I said. Whilst you are waiting for one to come off ebay you can get yours re cored.

I.m talking about the heater hoses now, are these different bore ?
I think I'm going to make my own up, the previous owner has used a combo of copper pipe (where it runs close to the block) and hose

Fred, can I ask you who you use for your Mk1 spares supplier. Pm me if you want.

Has that classic spares place you said were closing down gone now?

Sorry mis understood you about which hose, You can use generic rubber hose for the heater ones.
For a lot of stuff (service bits like points and filters) I use Midnight motors in Wembley 020 8903 3388, they also re cored the rad for me (well they sent it out).

I just tried the Collectors Car Parts number and it rang, but don't know if they are still open. They don't have a lot of transit bits though, only small stuff like switches, I had the exhaust downpipes made up there.
