90 ps or 75 ps?

im about to buy a transit 2.4 duratorq 2001 minibus how can i tell if its definately a 90 ps and not a 70 ps engine and finally is there any way of trying to up the power,cheers glen

you can get them chipped for a £200/300 dont know how to tell for definate what ps they are

I think the 75 was the 2 litre and the 90 was the 2.4.

Can't remember exactly what the badges say on them but they don't all have them, some just say Transit. Can't remember what model that was though.

ye but as mrmpuk says its a "badge" i know people with 2.0 on there 1.8 escort etc for the unknowing buyer it could be an easy way to mis sell something

No, some of the models have just Transit on the badge but can't remember exactly which model it is. I noticed when I was having a walk round of the factory after the backbone cruise and they did tell me, but I've slept since then!

look on the turbo, its in a basic code, 7524= 75 ps 2.4, 9024=90ps 2.4, 12524 got the picture same goes for the 2.0 it will say, 7520 or whatever but the 20 meaning 2.0 its a little sticker and its coloured ,i think the 75 ps is green, the 90 ps is blue, you cant miss it its on the aluminium bit of the turbo and is facing up where you can easily see it.

you could just look under the front bumper, 75Ps was not fitted with an intercooler

one little question, i have 2 125ps 2.4 at the mo, on one it has what looks like a pump on top of the fuel filter but not the other, any ideas ??

Yup

Early 125 Ps TDDi and 120Ps TDDi vehicles used a different injection pump to that of the 90 and 75Ps engines, they needed an electronic lift pump to supply the injection pump.

125's from around 52plate deleted the need for the lift pump after some internal tweaks.

the one fitted with the primer pump also has an inertia trip switch just about the O/S front strut mount(inside the cab) because the pump will run for 30 seconds every 30 seconds if the ignition is ON and the engine Off. (thats a great tip for bleeding the filter on the old ones)

All 125 rwds have a fuel cooler at the back of the tank too.......anything else
