Asquith van, 1987, 2.5di derivative 120 model

Postby Paul Asquith » Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:22 am

I have a 1987 Asquith Van which really lacks power. I would like to know what is the easiest option to increase the power and am wondering whether later transits have the same engine mounts, radiators, gear box etc. and what power output. The other option being to but a used later 2.5di (subject to knowing the power output) and strip it out for the Asquith. Guidance appreciated if possible. Thanks.

It is a van which looks like a 1920's van based on a Ford transit chassis and running gear.

Looks really like an old van with the big wheels and tyres, long bonnet (side opening flaps). It is though in essence a 1987 Ford Transit 120 with a 2.5di engine.

anyway paul up to 2000 pritty much all the transits share the engine mounts. although whats wrong with your engine - i'd have thought any Di would be powerfull enough for an asquith type van!!

any chance of getting some piccs of the van up?
:D

It is smoking a bit and due for annual test. It feels gutless which may just be engine wear but thought that if I was going to the trouble to change it then it would be better to get the latest engine available with the best power output. That would also enable us to add a trailer as and when.

Not sure how to put photos up but appreciate the input. Also probably cheaper to buy a second hand van and test it that do a recon?

have a look at this thread http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2550 it shows all the different Di's they will all fit! probly the best one to go for would be a "banana" Di unless you want a turbo :D
