CAN-bus is this used on connect?

Postby M4carp » Sat Dec 06, 2008 2:57 pm

Is the CAN-bus system used on my 08 230 connect, I know the Focus has it from 05 on.
Im trying to organise bits for fitting my ICE system and if it is a CAN-bus system theres a device where you can get all your connections from, speed pulse, illumination, ignition, reverse etc Been donkeys years since I messed with car audio and its changed quit a bit since then :?

Ok, so where do I pick up the hi/low CAN-bus wire to connect this module to?

Thanks

Yes but the stereo I got has got extra wires for speed sensor, ignition, illumunation, reverse (camera), handbrake which are seperate from the plug, the can bus adapter just has 2 wires in hi/low then calibrates to the system and wires out for each of the above. It all sounds a right pain but from what I have read the can bus adapter makes the job much quicker for installers as you dont have to find all the seperate feeds.

Think the module goes between stereo and loom so haven't got to find any wires, will phone them and check if it works with my connect.

Hi mate, there is a canbus type cable from Ford which if you have steering wheel remote cotnrol will also allow that to work, i dont know if it works the speed pulse sensor too i can probably get the part nunber for you if you want it? .

I have almost finishing the wiring in mine, i am hunting the vss connection tomorrow and will let you know if i find the cable, i dont think its too hard after i found the wiring diagram from Ford TIS.

By chance are you having to remove your centre console at all? the reason i ask is i am having to fit a 2008 centre section to fit my D3 and typical of fords the have also changed the heater control bezel in the new model, and ford cannot locate a part number for the new model heater bezel. if by chance you are is there any chance you could give me the part number on your unit?

The reversing camera is really quite impressive even in the dark i get a good picture!

Have you visited avic411.com? i dont know if your aware the AVIC units diable the ability to change your navigation route unless you are either stantionary with the handbrake on, or you visit the site and apply a bypass which allows you to alter nav on the move (if you are brave enough to divert attention from the road.....!) :)

Hi mate, Ive decided to have someone fit it so its booked in friday. Im still not 100% from the 6 months of chemotherapy ive just finished (thats my excuse to the mrs) and ive got 3 solid weeks of radiotherapy at the start of the new year so im feeling the stress I suppose and all this can bus stuff is doing my head in
Will be having a cat1 alarm fitted as well, the Toad one.

Sorry cant help with the heater bezel, typical of Fords mine didn't even know what double din was when I enquired about a cradle/face plate?

Which camera have you got and where you mounting it? I would like one :D

Hi Dave. Sorry to hear that, and good luck with your treatment in the new year.

I have the ND-BC2 Rear View Camera, there is a rubber grommet in the centre hole on the rear door between the 2 number plate lights, so i have run the cable through there, i haven't mounted in finally yet but i think it should tuck up there so as not to stand out too much, i think the connect mirrors are pants, (i can park my 120 Transit with my eyes shut .. not literally!) so the camera will make a big difference in those tight spaces.

The VSS Cable is a Blue & White and runs into the main control box located in the drivers footwell. The whole installation only took me 2 hours and i am a numpty when it comes to wiring, just got to get me bezel and i will be well away, also need to find soem way of hiding the unit when parked. :?: .

The FINIS PART No is 1513350 for the Ford AVIC D3 Bezel and is about £60 Retail.
The FINIS PART No is 1513354 for the Cable which allows the remote radio stalks to be used, again i dont know if this sorts the Can Bus stuff out too, it certainly has a can-bus plug on it. these retail again at about £60. i didnt need one as i don;t have that wiring on my connect.

How did you get on with your install?

I finally got a heater panel from a breakers and after lots of cutting, and rivetting i got my D3 installed, and wow its good. shame i havent got the hd3 really as its a pain having to have the dvd in for the navigation.

The rear view camera is a well needed bonus highly recommend one. when i work out how to upload photos i'll stick some on. Andy

I was supposed to pick the van up today (they have had it since friday) but on the way had a phone call to say the steering control adapter wasn't working properly so they ordered another one and should be ok for tomorrow (tuesdsay). A Toad cat1 alarm has also been fitted.

Having to have the dvd in for the sat nav to work is a pain but I guess you could put your music on a usb stick or an ipod whilst the disc is in for the sat nav?

Will get some pics up when its back home :)

Heres a pic of mine installed, the sound is very good with the Hertz amp and speakers only problem is that the head unit is powering down after 20mins so its going back monday :( Possibly the can bus adapter going to sleep?

Im glad the screen tilts because when its flat you lose alot of detail but once tilted up everything is much clearer.

Hi

It does look nice, had any thoughts on a way to cover it? didnt know it had tilt option as well.

My D3 is working fine, does the unit restart or just power off? i know the yellow and red wires sometimes need changing round on the power supply cables. did you get the bypass mod fitted?

the surround piece looks good too mate, the ford one is really shiney the same as the surround of the avic.

I didnt know it had a tilt option either lol

Just had a thought, could get some thin material and trap it behind the screen when its tilted and when it turns off the screen closes again holding the material over it? Will have to check it out but I think I will get the windows covered in that stuff that stops them getting smashed in, I have had a decent alarm fitted (Toad AI606) but someone will still try a smash and grab wether it has an alarm or not :(

The unit powers off and then you have to turn the ignition off and back on for it to restart again, the stereo doesnt seem to have an on/off button which is really annoying, very strange unless someone can correct me?

Dave

On my D3 the unit automatically turns on, and you have to go to push menu button once and on touch screen there is the option to turn off. also when in motion there is an option to turn the screen off whilst leaving music / radio on.

Is the head unit new? if so i sounds like a duff wire or earth somewhere as these units heavily rely on good earth points.
