cold start device playing up?/

hi all ive got 1995 2.5 deisel with turbo conversion and seperate cold start device bolted to pump
the van starts first time everytime evern on the coldest days but i think the cold start device is staying on too long ive checked for a voltage so i know the engine sensing switch is ok
if i start the van and leave it running on drive it can take as long as half an hour to opperate the device and drop the revs
will this do any damage to the engine ? as the device advances the pump as well as increasing the idle revs ?? thanks

what duz the temp gauge read, is temp sensor wire off, or have you taken thormastat out. (CHECK THESE)

temp gauge is ok just out of the blue before the device lowers the revs im more concerned weather it could damage the engine because its staying on to long

it be ok, just renew thormastat (with the highest 82 or 88c)

Shouldn`t take half an hour,although left ticking over engine will take ages to get warm.

Think block temp switch should make circuit at 11 degrees + to knock coldstart off,this is well before temp guage even registers.

hi dont think thermostat will make any differance as ive checked for a voltage at the cold start device and i get 12volts well before the device kicks in so im thinking the device itself is slow to respond

thats an idea but i still need to know roughly how long the device should take so i know if its working correctly

If you need to know i`ll time mine from cold,see how long it takes from getting 12v to being fully off

Right,fired van up from flat cold left it ticking over & timed it:

4 mins,switch makes circuit & coldstart solenoid gets batt voltage.

6 mins can hear engine revs starting to drop as coldstart is "pushed off"

8 mins coldstart is fully off.....

That was at todays outside temp,cooling system & stat on my van is spot on.

thanks for your help frag ill time mine tomorow but im sure mine takes longer than that you have got the same bolted on cold start device ?
if mines slow [knackerd] how much would a new one be any ideas? thanks again mate
