Just about to get started

Hi everyone, well it's time to get started on the old and rotten Transit 80.This wonderful piece of decaying commercial vehicle is my nephews who as a university student thought it would be good for lugging all his musical equipment about in. Unfortunately it's got more holes in it than a tea strainer. My nephew will be doing all the posting (although i will be chiming in from time to time) and i hope a large amount of the work with me just riding shot gun and advising him on how to go about things. Looking at others Transits of the same age it would appear to be no worse or batter than any other 1998 SWB 80 but as i have never restored a Transit i don't really know. I'm hoping that you wonderful people of the forums will be on hand to impart your pearls of wisdom and technical information when it's needed as I'll only be able to do very limited work on the project myself due to other commitments and the fact that the van is a long way from me. I will be posting some pics soon of the rusting beast so it should give you an idea of the state of play and how well my nephew gets on with things ( feel free to prompt him on any lack of activity ). From the cursory look Ive been able to have it seems to have followed the Transit set of rot codes embedded in it's genetic makeup very well indeed (as evidenced by a large number of vans that Ive seen you lads repair and restore) so it looks like I'll be bending some chassis rails up soon well that's if he ever gives me the dimensions of the things (i have asked him a few times now) Anyway bye for now now and keep watching people i'm sure it's going to be entertaining

good luck look for intransit89 mk4 lwb that should tell you where to go sort of but i did a mix ie did a bit there them moved on then went back again

best bet is to look at the chassis then front inner wings then keep looking

then do a wish list on here of what panels etc you want and we can help you
