Annoying things on my Mk7

Postby Tran59 » Mon May 25, 2009 9:36 am

I have had my brand new 140hp Mk 7 for a couple of months now and am generally very happy with it. It's powerful enough (though I wouldn't call it sporty) and can take plenty of boxes, which is great. There are one or two minor niggles, though, and so I thought I'd see what you all think.

- slowest central locking system ever: press the key fob, wait 2 or 3 secs, then finally... ker..lunk, the doors open :)
- rain sensors are weird: sometimes the wipers come on almost full speed when it's only drizzling, then when it starts to pour, they slow down. Also, the sensitivity switch has almost no effect whatsoever on the speed.
- steering column is not adjustable either for reach or rake (I think you can specify this as an option in the UK, but it's unavailable in France)
- the Bluetooth phone connection only works when you have the radio (or CD player) switched on
- the driver's seat doesn't go back quite far enough
- steering is slightly too 'manly' at parking speeds, could be lightened up a bit
- gear change is swift, but clunky and you can hear the cogs and whatever engaging in the engine compartment
- ride is very firm when unladen, especially on the rear axle, but I guess this is common to all vans (?) Certainly my Kangoo was a lot more comfortable...

Well, only minor niggles then. Overall, as I said, I'm very pleased with my Transit :)

I'm pleased to hear about that, ake, as I am on the point of signing up to the Mk7 club. I spec'd the van without the 'Premium Visibility Pack' which gives the rain-sensing wipers. I wish I could also spec without: HLA, ESP, central locking, computer stuff in general. I want to be driving the van, not the other way round. In fact, if I could buy a brand new Mk5 just like the one I have now ...

Well I have now had my new Trend for around a month and put 1500 miles on it, lets see, whats wrong..

Seems to be a fuel leak, but it only happens when I use the Engine, I put Diesel in, and after a week or so of driving I have to put more in, if I dont use run the engine its fine, most strange..

Birds keep crapping on it (the feathered kind) didnt seem to happen with my old standard regular white Mk5 but the spangly Tango Red Mk7 is a prime target.

I want my starboard side seat arm rest back.

Sometimes the bluetooth locks up, but turn phone off and back on again and all is good.

Strange soft bumping noise from underneath , seems related to fuel in tank but its not so bad I cant live with it.

Can never remember to put the drivers window up BEFORE turning ignition off.

The good things.. there are loads..

So so quiet compared to the old one.

Really good fuel economy, 40mpg plus

Although only the 85PS model, much quicker.

Rain sensitive wipers work really well and are soooo useful

Central Locking, no getting wet when its pissing down and I am trying to get the key in the 'ole, simply reach out of bog window at home before leaving, press button, van all open ready to go.

Uber comfy

Toys galore

Nice stereo

Looks really up market and smart and all customers comment on how great it looks.

More room in the load space and plenty of places to put stuff.

All in all, very pleased and think despite some reliabilty issues on some vans, Ford really have a great product in the Transit and its still the van to beat...

More like that please - I still need convincing.

Will it still work like that in 10 years time, though? There's nothing on my Mk5 that doesn't work like the day I bought it (except for fair wear and tear). A tough act to follow.
