LUCAS EPIC PUMP MANUAL ?

Postby AndyG » Thu Apr 27, 2006 6:08 pm

This pump has had nothing but bad press on this forum and even though mine's been great up to now, it's probably only a matter of time before it gives trouble.
I thought it would be nice to know exactly what makes this pump tick :?

What adjustments are available :?:
What actually goes wrong :?:
Why it costs an absolute fortune to put right :?:
Why has mine always been noisy and reliable :?:
Does anybody know if a manual is available :?:(book or CD not pump)

So what if I'm opening up a can of worms :?:(let 'em out :!: )

Used to go into limp home mode when you hit 60mph. Used to have to pull over, kill the engine, wait about 3 mins start her up and off you go again. Had a scary moment on the motorway in a contraflow, the limp home cut in and i couldn't get out of the outside lane because of inside lane traffic! Glad ive done the conversion :D
To be honest, i couldn't say to you, yes it was electronic. But my gut feeling was that it was and so i searched for the electronics because i thought it must be the cheapest way of getting it back on the road.

Did you not suspect a sensor :?:
What's the maximum speed in limp home mode?
Can you use all the gears still :?:

i managed 55mph in los mode 5th gear too :? its usually a actuator inside the pump that goes wrong :( im sure if you could get the bit you might be able to do it yourself :? :? :?

Save a fortune on converting to manual pumps. And besides manual pumps no good on my van :(
Tune them up a bit and every body will putting these back into their vans

I have never seen a manual for the epic pump,i even tried my mate who worked in the lucas factory in Gillingham in kent. There is no adjustment everything has to be done on a computer which is for the epic pump thats why not every diesel shop can do them,it seems the equipment needed costs a lot of dosh so a lot of dosh prices.Anything can go in them,i got my one done[£600] it went in to limp mode and 3 weeks later something else went and when i took it back to the diesel man, tough sh*t mate its an epic another £400 quid please.my mate in lucas recons the lifespan is between 1mile to 250.000 miles .After 4 pumps none with the same problem i changed to the bosch manual pump[more power,no hassle, more mgh
