Retro fitting electric windows.

Had a search, but can't quite find the answer I need. Where will the loom ends for electric windows be if fitted, so I can have a look for them? Will they be in the doors themselves or up under the dash? What sort of conector should I be looking for?

Assuming you have a mk5 (the only one mk3.4.5 that would be fitted with leccy windows) you need to take off the fake speaker cover in the footwell. If there are 2 large round plugs there you have the high spec loom and ford leccy windows and other toys will plug straight in. If you have a single plug you dont have the high spec loom.

There may be a loom in the door but its unlikely unless you have an alarm central locking or electric mirrors

That's interesting.... Sorry, I should have said, it i a mark5 (1999). It does have central locking ad 'leccy mirrors - but no leccy windows Seems an odd combination....

So tomorrow I pull off the speaker covers!

if it has leccy mirrors there is an extremely good chance you already have the correct loom in the doors

you will want the door cards, switches and motor. Everything else is the same.

Its not difficult to fit but you need to drill out some pop rivets and put new ones in

Why are the door cards not brilliant? My interior is otherwise mint....

Drivers side one has a plugged up hole where a manual winder was temporarly fitted and the passenger one has a small tear near the bottom, like i said they would be ok until you found some better ones

Ok, here's the latest. I've had the door cards off, there are no spare plugs. Then after taking off the false speaker cover in the footwell (driver's side) I found 3 multi plugs.



The large multiplug (3 wires visible, bottom) has shed loads of wires going into it, but only 3 coming out. Am I right in guessing an electric window set up will use another plug here, brimming with wires? I've tried to id the wires from the Haynes book, but as I have central locking and leccy mirrors, the circuit diagrams aren't great.

So, I call on those with the knowledge, can I plug into this socket with a electric window loom when I eventually find one??

I've also looked at the fusebox and there is a 30A fuse in the right slot for electric windows - could I be onto a winner?

Yes the loom for electric everything in the doors plugs into that one with 3 wires leaving...

everything you need in the van loom is there - but if you want electic mirrors you need the electric mirror switch too. I have a spare if you cant get one with your mirrors

Thanks Matt, but luckily, I already have electric mirrors and central locking. It's just the gucci windows I'm missing!

Your best bet would be to go to a breakers or find someone who is breaking a Transit with full electrics in the doors and remove the complete loom from the doors, Tourneo GLX ones can also be used, then just remove your loom and replace it with the one from the scrappy, the good thing is that you have the main loom in the van which would be the hardest part to fit if it wasn't already there.
