transit 1998 turbo diesel fuel shutoff solenoid

Hello wise men out there,
My transit has a Lucas injector pump. I got a new fuel shutoff solenoid to solve some gremlins but now I can't find the solenoid . I suspect it is the hardest to get to, rammed into the pump right up the engine block so you cant get to it .
Is that the one?
Do I have to remove the injector pump to get it out?
Is there a painless way?

Oh my god, the fuel shutoff solenoid defined at last!!!
I think I got the wrong new part number that's why I couldnt recognise it in the pump.
Well, what the problem is, I got a red engine light permanently on, it drives in limp mode (its got the power of a golf buggy), and when i turn off the ignition and pull the keys out, the engine keeps running for 40 secs.
So I thought I'd change the fuel shutoff solenoid to star with. What do you think? You think that can be the problem?

Try a search, part numbers for part also included and yes, it is possible to carry out the operation in situ

If you've a manual box, you can stall the engine and switch off ign at the same time fools the ECU that the stop solenoid is now working, so that the next time you switch on, no limp

Well, I didnt get it diagnosed because I live in a rural area (in South Australia). The nearest Ford dealer is in Adelaide and I have to drive down the expressway to get to Adelaide. The van drives like a golf buggy so I figured Id get rammed from behind by a Mach Truck or the van will self-destruct on the way, so I ordered a solenoid.
Ill stall the van whilst turning the key off thanks for the tip, maybe I can outsmart the van for a change, and make it to the ford dealer alive. However, there's a solenoid on my kitchen table so I'll whip that in first

I got the solenoid out and the rubber tip on the plunger is broken and rotten.
A ford solenoid in Australia is 550$ (for the plunger the size of a jellybean!!!)
Can someone direct me to a site where I could get an aftermarket solenoid from the UK? There is no aftermarket in Australia for transits.
I got one from "transitparts UK" in Ebay but they sent me the wrong part

You must have diesel specialists over there (where do you go to have your injectors tested )
I wouldn't rely on Ford to supply a Lucas/Delphi part

The Solenoid Plunger Kit is a DELPHI part 9109-738B Barcode 5050100006063

If you still have problems, we'll see what we can do from over here

i did have it but can not find it, i got the top two but i think they are diffrent. try one from a standard fuel shut off pulnger.??

Im going to try a "Frankenstain", Im putting the pluger of the wrong part they sent me in my Lucas sick solenoid thanks he heeee.
That chunk of rubber missing from the solenoid plunger, I wonder where it might be, hmmm...

I got a Diesel mechanic to order that Delphi kit for me. They try to sell me the whole pump all the time, because I'm a blonde chick, then he confessed he could get me the Delphy kit.
Underneath the van I found some unidentified O-rings, I think my injector pump is dropping things. I ordered a Delphy pump overhaul kit too.
They wanted to charge me 2800 $ to overhaul the pump!!
Well, the way I see it is; the O-rings are already out, half the job is done. I just get new ones in and play jigsaw see what fits where.

I was reading through other peoples posts, and I read that someone converted his Lucas Epic to Bosch after spending endless $$ on the Lucas, and that it is the best thing he has done in his life.
I also read that the Lucas Epic pump is the "worst pump ever built", unreliable, weak and expensive to fix.
Does someone know what is involved? Before I spend $$$$$ on the lucas I might get it converted if I can.
does the ECU have to be canged?
Mine is a manual, I read that automatics cannot be converted.
Does anybody know more?

do a search for bosch 145 or 146 pump, should get you all you need to know , i did it when i got my turbo engine before i fitted it to the van so dont know how much difference it makes but the manual pump is very good as far as i am concerned

you need the pump part # ending 145 or 146 for best match , the pipes to the injectors and some wire as the ecu becomes redundant , and the fuel shut off solenoid need a switched live to run the pump , thats about it

ive been trying to sell an epic pump for over a year now with no takers so guess every one is going bosch pump way

Obsolete ECU sounds good mate I wasnt looking forward for the price of a new one for the Bosch setup.
Do you still have your Lucas Epic for sale?
Here they are endangered species.
I called a wreckers in Melbourne because I couldn't get one in Adelaide where I live, and they wanted 2800$ for a reconditioned pump, and 1500$ for a second hand pump straight off the van (not recond).
They also asked me for a 500$ ransom until I sent them my farked pump so they could recondition it and sell it to another victim.
Does yours work fine?
I can ask them how much they give me for your pump if you want me to try. Monday I can make calls.
I get all my parts from the UK, because even with shipping its still less than half price.

I asked the wreckers if they wanted to buy a Lucas pump and they told me that they didnt know if I had been fondling the pump or what I had done to it so "No".
