they'll only defrost the jets.... not the pipes, bottle, pump etc....

so if you just have pure water in there then they won't help you much....

the jets must get bloody freezing when you're driving along at 70mph !

Wot's the best thing to stick in the bottle to help stop the water freezing.....has a mare on the motorway this morning, had to stop every ten mins and pour water on the screen, not good on the hard shoulder of the m6!!!!

screen wash is good when i got my connect 2yrs ago i paid £4000 all in for it at the time seem a bit dear but it was the 220 LX with air-con now as i have had two summers with the air-con and two winters heated screen/mirrors/washer jets/elec-windows/cd player.

best £4000 i spent

sorry i meant the jets, but i mean i never see the jets thaw. You would think on a frosty bonnet you would see the ice melt around and on the jets, must be very little heat generated in them although that doesnt matter very much when i dont bother my ass to put in any windscreen additive to keep the rest of the line and bottle freezing up

have to agree with you there tottespurs, after having two different peugeot partners for 7 years and sweating my balls of in the summer and having to run with buckets of warm water in the winters to thaw it out my first summer this year was as cool as an ice cube 8) and this winter was easy with the heated screen :P . Them few extra,s make life a whole lot easier :D :D

As far as I know, heated windscreens are an option unique to Fords.

This is a bewildering state of affairs when it seems such a bloody useful bit of kit. My daughte is a GP on call, and took my advice (for once!!) to change her motor for a Fiesta Zetec which has one. It's been a godsend this last week.

BTW, the best stuff to add to the windscreen washer bottle is methylated spirits. This won't rot your paintwork like the ethyl alcohol/salt mixtures in cheap winter screenwashes.
Handy too if you run out of booze over Xmas. I wouldn't fancy drinking it but am aching to add it to my mother-in-law's gin and tonic.
