Timing set up guide needed

Postby TimothyUA » Sat Feb 13, 2010 1:05 pm

Hi all!
I was searching for a step by step guide with pics on how to set up a timing(ignition) for Ford Tranzit 1995 Diesel. Can anyone help?
thanks!

it is converted form Lukas Turbo to Bosh mechanics. Poor performance and high(11-12) liters of diesel per 100 km consumption.

when you replacing timing belt and or the fuel pump on all 2.5 DI non turbo engines you will have to advance the pump after your timing belt is installed and the pegs(or drill bits) from the gear wheels are removed .

i didnt put the cam belt cover back on (to have acces to the fuel pump gear wheel) and didnt install the fan/alternator waterpump belt out of laziness -instead i added one more battery to have enough juice to run the starter .i believe the engine wont get too hot (no water pump) in the few minutes it will be run -but more experienced people may disagree???????
there are four size 13 bolts on the gearwheel of the fuel pump that you need to loosen up .the oval holes on the gearwheel provides for the wheel to be moved while the shaft of the fuel pump stays fixed thus advancing the timing .
use size 18 with a big ratchet to move(turn) ever so slightly the gear wheel at the very bottom of the engine in counter clockwise direction . i moved it about 4 millimeters . fasten the bolts on the fuel pump and start the engine .
see what smoke comes out and the response to acceleration . let it run for at least couple of minutes then accelerates to see if it smokes .misses etc
if it smokes thick white smog its still not advanced enough . if its black its advanced too far .
loosen the bolts again and move it counter clock wise to advance or clockwise to retard the timing of the fuel pump .
my car stopped smoking all together and accelerates fast on the second try .
hope this help worked for me kamil
