No Ignition but a tick?

What is it about bloody American (Ford) vehicles? Don't get me wrong, I love my van, but I've had nothing but hassle with it since I replaced my Japanese car! Good old Japs, had that car for years and NEVER gave me any problems and ALWAYS passed the MOT. With this, well, I've only had it a few months and I'm getting a little 'peed off' now.

So, the latest issue that I'm having is when I turn the ignition I get no start whatsoever, instead I get a 'tick' sound? I was out earlier on this morning and all was well when I parked it up. Then when I returned from the shop and must have tried turning the key about 30 times, before suddenly it started! Now I know nothing about vehicles as you can probably tell, but one thing that someone suggested to me that it might be a starter motor problem. Does this sound right?

Appreciate any 'constructive' comments on this please as this is really getting annoying now.

The starter motor failing might be the good news

The bad news is, it could be your Dual Mass Flywheel failing Causing the starter motor to fail

the starter motors themselves are very good, but water can leak on them from water pump, diesel from leaking pump, and on rwd or early <02 100ps fwd and all fwd 125tdcis the DMF can breakdown and clog up starter.
