Transit 350 135 engine problems

Hi all i hope theres some one out there that is in the know as the old bus is driving me insane.I recently purchased a 2006 tipper with engine fault, we bought new head as the cam tensioner had gone and the cam bolts were loose,also tensioner chain etc etc well its now running and ticks over fine but when i try driving it, it has a diesel knock and looses power engine managment light comes on and she comes to a stop yet when shes parked she will tick over and revs up fine.Im in the process of pulling my hair out as its been with the fitter for over a month and im having to take it in hand myself now, Any sugestions will be greatly recieved thanks Joe

there will be codes to be read,with management light coming on,have them read ,but sounds like timings out,i wouldnt try driving it like it is because you could end up back where you started,if it is the timing out,as the camshaft carrier cracks because timing has jumped,have the codes read first before you start stripping it,could be other things like injectors not put back in right cylinders,as there coded to the cylinders

Hi thanks Angeleye reading codes again today for the 4th time will report back with prognosis.Didnt know the injectors had to go back in same cylinder.Was told that the diesel was full of crap yesterday morning so took out what was in there, a mixture of 3/4 tank of white/red and water so the diesel is now pure so thats out of the way now just need to get to the bottom of this issue. if your diesel was full of crap,change fuel filter,make sure you get right one as tdci is different to di (bit more expensive) i would suggest you have injectors clean and checked at a boscsh/delphi agent with the right gear to do it (about £100 for the four)if you dont no which cylinder they came out of make a note of the long number on injectors and which cylinder they went in,then have them recoded,
these tdci injectors need to be bang on if there not to cause you any problems

Hello guys weve had the code p0251 come up. The fuel filter has been changed and bled through also the injectors have been recoded acording to the fitter, but with the code p0251 coming up i think thats to do with pump ?????????????????????? what do you guys think ?

0251 fuel pump solonoid malfunction,try putting a clear plastic pipe on pump feed with a funnel on end of it,and pipe on return into a container with some diesel into it,fill funnel with diesel,and get someone to crank engine over, see if the diesel gets sucked in fill a few funnels of diesel, then crack open slightly one injector pipe only see if any fuel will bleed up,when cranking over when trying this only crank over for 5-10 secs then leave for 10 secs before cranking again if you carry on cranking for longer than this when trying the pcm will shut the pump down
if diesel gets sucked in up to injectors,put pipes back on and re-bleed system,
generaly tdci are quite easy to bleed but do give probs sometimes when bleeding system

when bleeding system fill fuel filter with diesel tapping filter while doing it to get any air out of it(you will be suprised how much air comes out of these filters you think its full of diesel then more air will come out of it)fit fuel filter crank over (remembering what i said about cranking over 5-10 secs)and undo a injector pipe to get air out,you will need repeat this process several times until your sure all air is out,

We have bled it and its running but just not very nicely,if you stand infront of engine on tick over you can see the odd shake were shes miss firing and it gets worse if you put the engine under load and the heater light comes on thats when we get the reading of 0251.Also forgot to mention cus they are swines to bleed the fitter put a hand pump on, could this be causing a problem ?

i take it you take hand pump off when starting it,do you no what pressure you are actualy getting,when running and when just cranking/have you tried to find out when miss firing,if its a single cylinder thats miss firing,have you checked any of the wiring to injectors making sure theres no damage to them

check fuel leak off pipes for damage good tight fit and seals are good condition as air from these will be sucked straight in,they only need a slight bit of air ingress to drop pressure and stop them running right /get your fitter to take the unit out off back of fuel pump,the one with the brown wiring plug,held with 2 torx screws check if there is any swarf/metal filing that indicates pump is breaking up,
if pump is breaking up it will quite often take injectors with it

Hi guys back again with another question do the TDCI's have an electric pump on or at the fuel tank, cus every one i talk to has said they are designed to run under pressure but will not suck up from the tank ? managed to get the old bus going again but all she did was use the fuel in the filter then towed it bled towed it bled it and would she go i might aswell have sailed to the flamin moon !!!

transfer pump is built into pump itself,is air vent clear in tank,any pressure in there,have your checked fuel rail pressure,have you checked, for swarf in pump,try using a clean bucket for a fuel tank see if its sucking up the diesel,
hope you havnt f**ked the timing up again by towing it,and towing it

Morning at present i think the timing is still ok ! Alledgedly towing them is what FORD do to get them started I used a compressor and blew back into the tank yesturday to confirm that was clear she was bubbling like a good one but didnt check the breather for the tank, if you say its built in then i might just aswell get the poxy pump into Swadlincote diesel and let them do there worst, was chatting to another fitter who recond hed changed 4 of those solenoids with brown wire on back of pump in a week

he prob on about the solonoid on the di not tdci as the tdci tends to be more reliable,i would check that it hasnt any swarf in there, if it has, pump is breaking up,with theses fuel systems you have to be ultra clean with them ,clean things down before stripping them ,plug pipes when un done,and dirt ingress can upset the system,thats why they have a different fuel filter from the di.are you just going to take pump off and hope its that,or are you going to give them the van to check out.
