Ford Transit 2.4 Duratorq Fuel problem (i think)

Hi, i have a Ford Transit 2.4 Duratorq 2002 which has developed an intermittent fault, over the last couple of weeks when driving is has developed a massive flatspot when accelerating, it is fine low down and high up but in the middle there is nothing there, this seems to occur usually when cold but could just be coincidence, i had previously run low on fuel so have had the fuel filter changed, would be grateful for any suggestions, thanks chris
