Thanks to everyone for the rust info. I'll let you know when there's some progress with my follow-up to Ford Customer Service.

Ordinary Van at Ace Corner

Yes, it was there. I think I can claim that it was the most ordinary van present. I don't think anyone has posted pictures of the gathering (viewtopic.php?p=603140#p603140) but here is the evidence to prove that we were there:

Image

I was asked if the TDCi badge had been stolen from the front of the van. I wasn't sure it ever had one and I had to check a picture taken on the day it was delivered:

It never did have the badge on the front.

I assume that my badge disappeared in the Transit factory as an economy measure. I'll have to conduct a survey of all Transits registered after September 2009.

Eine Kleine Nacht-Transit

Image

Zero-tolerance mission completed without problems - that's what I was up to last week. In spite of the rain, wet grass and mud, the Ordinary Van glided along with no apparent BTCS intervention. Cue Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik:

Image

One of his best-known works and frequently performed and recorded. A Mozart biographer, Hildesheimer writes, "Even if we hear it on every street corner, its high quality is undisputed, an occasional piece from a light but happy pen."

I think we can say the same about the Transit, "Even if we see it on every street corner, its high quality is undisputed (apart from the rustproofing, of course)."

Further reading and listening: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eine_kleine_Nachtmusik

Trivia question: What is Mozart's middle name?
Answer: Wolfgang!

The results of my informal survey indicate that some '09' Transits have the badge, but '59' and later Transits do not. If you really want one, you can buy it as a Ford part from various vendors such as Allen Ford (UK) Ltd (the above image is from their site).

Ford have a habit of deleting little items from a model to save money then offering it back as an extra, shame they can't delete rust :x :x

I won't be buying one either. The Ordinary Van was delivered without so an 'aftermarket' badge would be regarded as unOrdinary.

The survey continues, but I've yet to see a '10' with a badge on the radiator grille. For example, I don't see a badge on the front of Mike Spence's van in his avatar photo, so I wonder what are the badging criteria?

Perhaps its only standard on higher spec vans and only an option on the lower models :?
