A series engine Help

Postby A Beast » Tue May 18, 2010 6:23 pm

I have a A series RB44 with a 4 cylinder engine, turbo and a Minimec inline pump. Is this correct? the engine looks like the six cylider in a D series but shorter. Would this be a 2.5 or a 3.5?.
It came to me as forestry crane and just to confuse things it has has the cab of a VW LT 35. so we call it the UNIDOG

hi ive never seen a turbo on a 2.4. york engine! you say it looks like a ford d engine but shorter? it could be a 4cyl d series engine which does have the minimec pump also, i would know it if i saw a picture, if it is then it is 4.2 litre and the turbo has been added. :D

the last york ...... one that had a glow plug in each pot started straight away, early ones it was found the timing marks where not spot on on the crank and by playing about a couple of teeth on the belt you could get it to go off the glow plug with no easy start :D :D

i,m working on the fact that in his original post he says it looks like a d series engine but shorter, there was a 4 cyl version 255 engine of the dorset series.

in theory the 2.5 d.i. turbo would bolt straight on to the york engine.

Hi all thanks for the posts,

I have bean busy so not had much time on the Beast.

The engine was a 4 cylinder York in a RB 44. We have replaced the engine with a Perkins 4203 and ZF Box, The Renolds Baughton transfer box was shot so it has bean replaced with a transfer box out of a late dodge 50 RB 44 a bit of a chop and weld job and shorten a prop.
If all goes to plan the chassis and running gear will be done soon and it will probbably end up with the Crewcab of a LDV convoy and a Hiab.

It is a Hienz 57 ford A series hence it gets called the UnIdog of my mates
