Rustproofing a Mk 7 - any special requests?

Postby RacinRob » Tue Sep 06, 2011 7:24 pm

I'm just about to invest in some rustproofing chemicals and give the transit a good blasting.
New compressor is sitting ready to go.
Not 100% sure on taking the waxoyl or dinatrol route.
Planning to blast the chassis members with the wax compound along with inner arches, sills etc.
Question being - what areas cause the most corrosion problems meaning extra attention would be required?
Cheers
Rob

Have a look at Bilt Hamber products r50 and ub waxes. 5l @£40

Front cross members, chassis rails, arches, floor and spring hangers are important but the whole van ie. pillars, doors the lot need doing if it's a keeper.

take the lining off the inside in the rear so you can do over the rear arches and seems down to the floor level and also down the rear pillars and rear doors :D

Here's the result of degreasing and overnight in a couple of jamjars, one for each set, and a sprinkle of Bilt Hamber deoxC rust product crystals in water solution on the 26 year old rear wheel nuts, don't put lids on tight as it bubbles, been using this stuff for years and it's brahma like their other products.

I use Bilt Hamber hydrate 80 primer brushed on metal body panels and chassis to neutralise and convert rusty bits and i just use synthetic diamond white brushed straight over that on the amby or wax underneath, after about 5-7 years sat outside a bit of bubbling occurs at some original spots on bodywork but if i do those bits when it happens the areas are not any worse than original and this 26 year old mk2 vehicle is outside 24/7.

You should see things like disc's etc. after a few days in a bucket of deoxC. i know people who put whole doors in solutions of the stuff.

I bought a 5 litre of the underbody black stuff and a 5 litre tin of injection wax - all in it was about £80.
The gun to spray it all was approx £50 from fleabay.
The gun included an extension hose with a right angle fitting on the end that was superb with hardly any overspray
