Thanks for the 'positives' mate, nice to be appreciated :D

Ordered a new water pump for the Essex this morning, got a supplier who has a 'few' on the shelf, once we confirm that they are the correct part, I will post a picture and price on here for any of you Essex V4/6 owners struggling to get a replacement.
One thing for sure, they will be cheaper than eBay :lol:

Since it would appear that we have an Essex V6 to install in a Mk5 BEFORE Transitmania, I have spent the morning with suppliers and working on the water hose layout for the conversion.

Unfortunately, I still have the WRONG water pump;
Image
This is the type used when NO header tank is fitted, Granada/Capri type and has no bypass hose takeoff to connect with the outlet at base of the thermostat housing, but it is sufficient for developing the other hoses.

The Mk5 di bottom hose is a good fit;
Image
but, this will need a 'takeoff' to connect with the large outlet from the base of the expansion tank. We will 'break into' the bottom hose with a copper 'T' piece to connect to the expansion tank.

The lower heater hose can be made from the long Mk5 one, it connects from the rear of the water pump;
Image

running behind the exhaust manifold to connect with the lower port of the heater;
Image

This shows the original Mk5 heater hose compared to the cut one to use with the V6;
Image
Make sure you save the 'off-cut', you will be needing part of it later :lol:

The second heater hose is where the fun starts!
On the SVO vehicles, a single choke carb was used, this had a manual choke, (cable operated).
It is unlikely that any of you will be using one of these, the carb of 'choice' is likely to be the 38DGAS, with water operated auto choke control;
Image

With the 38DGAS, the upper heater hose needs to routed to the rear of the auto choke mechanism, this is achieved by using part of the 'heater leg' from the di hose that connects to the base of the expansion tank;

This picture shows where the hose was cut;

That is correct mate, using stock manifolds is the simplest solution, the three branch Capri ones do NOT fit, fouling the bulkhead on the driver's side, the Scimitar cast ones will foul the engine mountings.
This leaves the stock Mk1 Granada units as the only 'off the shelf' option, but the right hand one does foul the Mt75 bell housing slightly, this has required an alteration to the external shape of the adapter plate and will require a small amount of material to be removed from the outer edge of the bell housing flange.
I will be removing the engine from the Surrogate to facilitate this and the alteration to the adapter plate will be incorporated in the cad drawing, ensuring that all future plates have this modification.

The two-into-one down pipe will be made to meet the Granada manifolds and the standard di exhaust where the cross over/flexi pipe would join. A longer support plate will be provided to mount the exhaust each side of the gearbox rear mounting.

Re diff selection, there is no doubt that the V6 will be more than capable of 'pulling' the highest available final drive, even with the fifth gear, but considering that it does rev higher than the di, your existing gearing will be quite acceptable.

i see thats a sh==t im just looking at a v6 but its got Scimitar manifolds never mind, also that area you have to grind out for the starter what if you thicken up on the conversion plate size i guess you thought of this but 19th head and all

The exhaust manifolds will interchange mate, but best to look for a 'rear sump' engine, later Scimitar, any Capri/Granada.
You also need the rocker cover with the oil filler at the front, otherwise you will be filling the engine through a syringe :lol:

The adapter plate has to be the thickness it is so as to maintain 'flywheel offset'.

I have spare manifolds if any of you are short!

worst case get it use the plates from scimiter manifolds and weld on custom pipes 8)

In the absence of the correct water pump, (you just can't trust your suppliers), I did some work on the two-into-one exhaust today.
Here's a pic;

Now where did I put that exhaust tube bender?
