Oil change

Postby lightning » Sun Sep 02, 2012 5:12 pm

I checked the oil in my Transit Connect TDCi today and it's as black as the ace of spades.

I changed the oil and filter earlier this year, 4000 miles ago. Should I change it again or does it not matter that it's black as coal? I know oil in diesels does go black but I've done 5,000 in the Defender TD5 since the oil was changed and it's not gone as black as this.

Well I do normally change it every 6,000 miles. Can't do any harm and only costs £50.

These make life easy, I have a Mercedes C220 Cdi and it's a pain in the a55 to remove the belly panels to drain the engine of its oil, so, suck it out with this, the filter is on top of the engine... 20 mins all done...

Haven't tried it on Connie yet....

Yeah, I bought a Pela pump, does a great job.

I used to have VW car and Van, which both had oil filters at the top of the engine, so I could do a complete oil and filter change from the top of the engine.

I'll have to get under the connect to change the filter, but at least the oil can be changed more easily still!

is it true that you can flush your engine with engine flush on its own?

apparently you drain the oil out the engine - fill then engine entirely with engine flush only (about 5.6 litres) and run the engine for 10 mins before empyting and filling with oil again

Does anyone know what its called? i know you can get engine flush but you only get it in small bottles that you mix with the old oil before draining

thanks
