Problem is unless you get an EFI pinto there is no swirl pot built into the tank :( BUT you can change to a diesel tank which has a swirl pot and fit an external pump.

MK5 DOHC transits has the pump submerged in the tank. BUT if you fit a MK5 tank to a MK3/4 you need to cut about with the filler

hi guys afterdays of looking for a good cheap petrol transit i have found NONE....

so looks like i have to get a deisel transit :

can you tell me anyone what the difference would be for this conversion

i no the engine mounts are different ,, can i just weld bolt on the right ones take the others of?????????

also what about the gearbox are they the same?? and the adapter plate dont come on a deisel so can i buy 1 of them from some where???

and the loom will that be harder to do as well???

can anyone else think of any other problems getting a diesel to do this project rather than a petrol transit???????

thanks for ur help cheers

basically yes - you'll need all those bits off a petrol one :D as for the loom i dont think it will matter as you can just use the cossy engine loom anyway :D

personally if i was doing one i'd go for the mintest body wise i could afford :P rest is just bolt on bits :D

what mk have you seen 4 or 5 :?:

you will still need a swirl pot to feed the injection pump or find a 2.9 fuel tank

like this one

Image

you then need a low pressure pump to suck from the tank to the swirl pot

or you can use a fuel sender unit from a dohc transit but it may noy supply enough fuel for the cossie depends on what power you are after

I have to say the hardest bit of this conversion is the exhausts.

wiring is easy, mounts are easy on a MK3/4 pinto, adaptor plate will be on the pinto.

I reckon MK5 will be harder as you would need to source the bits separatly

At the risk of repeating myself (maybe this thread maybe another), if you have an external swirl pot you dont need one in the tank!!! Have a look on the turbosport forums, loads have done it with the original tanks!

All you need is a low pressure pump near the tank feeding the swirl pot in the engine bay, then the pipe comes from there to the injection pump(high pressure) and from there to the fuel rail and injectors, then the overflow/bypass goes straight back into the swirl pot and doesnt need to go back to the tank, the swirl pot is used purely to act as a continually topped up mini fuel tank :D

Is that any clearer?
