well its sat on my drive all ready for the big drive down tomorrow :D

needs a drivers door seal, and i should have checked the oil in the axle - -never remember it being that noisy :? and its a 4.1 (or 4.4 cant remember) :D nemind i'll take me chances - think i did it  apart from that i think it will make it

still running rough - im blaming the exhausts! but i managed to wheelspin it under acceleration in 4th  8) rain helped tho :P

i have took a pic but photobucket wont work - but those going to gaydon will see it for real :P

well, made it down to gaydon in the end 8) btw, superb weekend get yourself there next year i certanly will be, anyway on the way down had a few problems with the servo catching the plenum, the vibration was that bad i had to stop and wedge a bit of old rubber door seal in between  that stopped it for a while and then it vibrated out :x
next services i was meeting kev (rover) we decided another bodge was the best option, kev had an old rad hose that he uses for getting customers away, he cut a slice off it and wedged it in - top bodge, lasted all the way there and all the way back
but that does need sorting asap!
apart from that it ran ok ish - exhausts too loud especially when i'd listened to tonys mk5 cossy 24v that was much much better :D and i think the lack of backpressure wasnt good for economy 31 litres to do 130 miles  so i hope thats the problem i'd also been disconneting the battery every night so reseting the ecu each time - so perhaps that didnt help either!

all in all im pleased with the van all the vibrations and sound proofing need to be sorted - its noisier than my mk4 Di, but that will be done in time :D

the van won a trophy for best work in progress - which was nice, ive gotta thank steve for doing all the body work for me - cheers mate :D

here's a pic of me getting the trophy off peter lee
Image
more pics of the event here on the club site and here on the forum :D

future plans in no specific order

finish off wiring
sort out the interior
fit rear seats
fit an over head console
sort servo clearance problems
fit front alloys - involves narrowing the axle and changing the braking system
fit cruise controll
fit fuel/trip computer
electric window conversion
remote central locking conversion
finish off paint work -eg front grill hasnt even got paint
narrow rear bumpers
refit pas properly
wire up fans
pipe in heater
pipe in oil cooler
............oh and fit a couple of turbos
and then thers all the jobs i havent even started planning yet, rear axle swap - would like an LSD and mabe even coilovers

so you can see ive got plenty to do, and i hope everyone who saw it at gaydon enjoyed looking round it as much as i did looking round everyone elses :D

Went up today washed the crap off from the journey to gaydon. that many jobs to do i couldnt decide which one to start with so i did none

a few mates came round so i took it out to give a demo to them, one of them was Will

obviously demonstrating it i had to give it some stick  - 1st time ive done it in the dry, anyway i had major problems getting the power down  tyres were fine it was the springs that were the problem - i guess 35 years has taken its toll - every time i accelerated i got major axle tramp :( another job to add to the list, if i can get hold of some springs i'll change them but other than that i'll do a complete coil over conversion at a later date :P

i did have one slight/major problem when i fitted the sierra calipers i didnt fit the new bolts (the ones with threadlock on) i always intended to take them off again to paint them up  anyway one fell out and locked the back up under heavy braking  luckly the handbrake cable stopped the caliper going all the way up, so ive fitted the new bolts and i'll do the other side tomorrow :D

1st job on the list tomorrow is servo- plenum problem :!:

i realsied why mine catches and the other cossy one i saw at gaydon doesnt, basically the transit rear axle flange isnt in the middle of the van so ford mounted the drive train in line offset down the off-centre of the van - by using sierra mounts it positions the engine in the center (good for servo clearance) but i used transit mounts which positioned the engine offset towards the offside - hence the servo clearance problems i have

prolly 30 yrs old  cant see them helping either but i think springs more so, its a little bit annoying cos i cut throught a pair of 120 mk4 single leafs and shocks with a gas axe to get the axle off one a while back - never thought of using them on this :x

At the moment ive got the servo and plenum off, i'm thinking of modernising the servo - fitting the mk3 one off the ambilance including the master cyl - according to my info it aslo has a larger bore which should help reduce the long pedal travel i have since fitting the rear disks :?

as for the plenum well im going to have a go at manufacturing one, i just like the idea of it  and it will help with the air flow when i turbo it :D

hopefully it will look something like this

but mabe not as shiney
