i'd be happy with the plugs - at least they show no major engine problems :D

while there out - try a compression test - it'll give you good info on the engine :D

Yes you are right as I looked again at the picture, probably the only correctly gapped one.

here are some pics of the ro im trying to eradicate from behind the steering box..

I would have done more today but the weathers been awful and by the end of the day I had well and truly had enough
Image

heres the chassis rail
Image

The major hardship was getting to it to be honest, there are a couple of small bits I can see under that arch I will do at the same time ust to waterproof the cab a bit...

The rot soon cuts back to bright metal though so im quite pleased about that, god knows how long the top of the rail had been gone though, i hoovered half a dyson full of crap out of it...

maybe this is why shes had 11 owners in the last couple of years.

my upholsterer reckons the custom transit seats are salvagable so thats another bit of good news

mot achieved...

least I can use her and move her about legally now

on way back from MOT strange noise began appearing at tickover...

is there a spigot bush or bronze on these vans?

no noise at higher rpms but at tickover its horrendous.. and intermittent

Emily Update....

Postby rottie_007 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 8:19 pm

after weeks of ownership it occured to me the engine was stupidly quiet for OHV and had an absolutely awful tickover at least 1 or 2 cylinders not firing at least

so I bought myself some nice new feeler gauges and a haynes manual off of ebay and set about re-setting the clearances of the valves..

first problem was working out the numbering of the valves, only after flicking back and forth through the manual till it fel to bits almost did I realise it said in BOLD under the diagram FRONT OF ENGINE

so ran them through nipped the covers back on put the plugs back in (looked very lean compared to last strip so might have to richen the carb up a bit)

and started her up..

took a little bit of winding to get her to go but when she went she settled into the smoothest tickover I had ever seen, I could almost have sat a glass of water on top of the engine I think without it spilling...

have got a tick from one of the back ones but I think thats my fault from misjudging when the other two were open (as it says in the manual) but the main thing is she is ticking over smoothly on all four now

inside the engine looked very clean with no signs of the black goop you often see in older cars so reckon the mileage may be correct

if anyone has an easy way of tappeting then please let me know !!
