2.2 pulsing when cold

Postby coswurv » Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:37 am

Right guys I’ve got a 2015 custom 2.2 155bhp 102k on the clock it’s started to play up a little when starting from cold initially it starts and idles fine but when you start driving it gives like a pulsing/hesitant feel on the throttle around 2k revs and can sound like it has a bit more “diesel knock” to it, once you’ve driven say 2-3 miles and it’s warmed up it goes away and everything is normal until it’s left over night and stone cold again ? I’ve put some injector cleaner through it and just had the glow plugs and egr changed but unfortunately still the same. Just wondered if anyone recognises the symptoms and has any ideas, I’ve included a link from this morning and you can hear it doing at 2k revs when I go up into 3rd any help would be appreciated as to where I go from here with it, one other thing is the colder the weather the longer it can take to go away.

I service the van every 10-12k with all filters and genuine, castrol oil and used premium fuel in it since 6k miles. It uses no oil no water with no leaks and no smoke and you can pull dipstick out when running and up to temp with no smoke or puffing.

Hi, I’ve got a 2013 Custom 2.2 125bhp with 150 000 km and I might have the same issue as you @coswurv.

I have also a DPF problem (code P02463) so I've watched O'Rileys videos on youtube.

I've had a look with Forscan, and during a short drive something caught my attention:
the coolant temperature in Forscan (ECT) was still low (between 50°C and 65°C, however the indicator on my dashboard was already at 90°C).

So I'm thinking the intercooler temp sensor might have a problem? Or maybe the hole thermostat...
@Radiofence did you have a false indicated water temp on your dash or in Forscan before you changed the sensor? And can you please indicate where is this sensor located?

Thanks

No I didn't have any water temp warnings. It's a green sensor at the end of the air cooler. Lie under the van and u will c it.

I have the issue of the temperature reading 90c soon after cold start but the scan tool I use was indicating 40-50c

Did you manage to fix

Sorry for the delay.
I managed to fix the DPF problem, but the coolant temperature indicator on my dashboard still climb at 90°C really fast (whereas in Forscan ECT is between 50°C and 65°C).
But I think it has always been like this on this van. Maybe it's supposed to be like this from factory...
