Problems with 2.5di timing belt change

Postby Ransettimies » Thu Aug 14, 2025 6:50 pm

Hi

I dont know what i do wrong. I have locked alö three spots with drill bits. First two times i got automatic tensioner right, dot at 9 a clock. Still flywheel was missed a tooth. Now i dont even get tensioner right. I start with allen key hole 9 a clock but when i turn tensioner, dot is allways at 12 a clock.

Ive tried slacked belt and tighten it. Allways same problem. Tried even the old tensioner and it does same. Tried whole thing injection pump sprocket bolts loosen and not loosen.

What should i try next?

There are two holes in the flywheel a deep one that is correct and shallow one that’s not has been mentioned on here but I’ve never had a pin in it even if pinning up after a belt snap

Problem was crappy automatic tensioner. I installed mechanical and all good at first turn.

Never had a problem with both but prefer the mechanical old style ones

+1 on the old style tensioner.
Remember the spring lives with the engine

Do you mean automatic tensioner spring or mechanical tensioner spring? I installed mechanical without the spring because i didnt have it.

Nothing just used to tension the belt you can do it without a spring set the tension to a 45 degree twist on the longest run of the belt

What he said

It just gives a "ball park" indication of where it needs to be.
