The wings are spot welded on at the factory, they have to be hacked off and new ones welded on. Obviously fibreglass can't be welded, so they are screwed or pop riveted on. How bad are the wings? Can they be saved?

bottoms are rusting away, headlamp bowls going as well also indictors, got rust streaks and bubbles appearing daily, all at front.

back of wings i think prev owner has done a fill and hope job, after he put the new steps in.

also have "found" a pile of rust sitting inside the wing behind the battery in the tube bit that goes back toward windscreen, but have no holes on the top.

I have a mk 1 that needs some work done behind both front wings, Is it possible to remove the original wings without damaging them? as mine arn't at all bad?
I saw in a magazine a mk1 that was restored and the wings were converted to bolt on, and i think they were metal wings too. Sounds like a good idea.

yes :D
what you need is a spot weld drill
they look like this!!!

they will remove them leaving no damage to the van and only a 10mm hole in the wing - which can be used for re-attaching with a mig welder!!

Top tool 8)

try baconsdozen - he might sell them!! :D
