Engine behaviour 2.5 Diesel

Bonjour,

I have a MK5 2.5 diesel from 2000 with the old type of engine in it. And to me it's the strangest diesel I ever rode. It has got some power in the lower revs. Than in the middle mine has absolutely no power at all. And than, I guess at around 3000rpm she goes like a 'rocket'! Even in the hills, if you climb in low gear, she goes slower and slower and you have to downshift all the way. But when I play with the clutch, rev high, the motor picks up again and eventually speeds up the hill.

To me this occurs as a strange way of diesel behavior. Or do you guys share my experience?

I was just saying the same thing today I don't call it extreme or unusual tho... My Lola is happiest at 73-74mph, just little bit over 3000rpm. At those revs she has loads of power to go faster on overtaking and doesn't mind any hills. However - if the revs drops below 2700 - 2500rpm, she will get "scared" at the slightest of hills, yet - below 1700rpm she has the power again Very strange, but also predictable and easy to work with if you have the rev counter I can't tell if this is unusual or not, I'm happy with what she can do

Sounds to me like the 'torque sleeve' inside the pump is sticking

It might just be the way the pump is set up to give you the best economy for cruising and yet still be able to deliver a punch when required

That's what I'll go with I'm happy with what she does and how she does it and how economical she is at the moment
