Upgraded load area light?

Postby gt_addict » Sun Oct 07, 2012 12:27 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading the dim weak little candle like bulb in the back of the van. I just wondered if someone else has done this and what they used

I'm considering using a set of LED DRL's of eBay and hardwiring them up to the existing wiring.

Anyone have any thoughts, opinions or suggestions?

Thanks,

Peter.

I changed the bulbs to white ones which helped but I also have two additional lights, one over the side door and one above the rear doors that come on when either of these doors open. These are powered from the unused 12v cable in the rear. Makes a big difference.

A 3 meter strip of SMDs (surface mounted diodes) with a sticky 3M backing for £7.59 delivered. Just cut it in half, then a bit of cable, bit of solder and shrink wrap and jobs a goodun! :D
I'll be on this one in the next couple of weeks and removing the stock one completely

Just different SPEC.might be colour temperature (in K (kelvin)) or lumen output. Etc etc
Nothing to decide between. Let the price decide!

I used 5m of the led tape which has a 3M sticky tape on the back which I stuck to the roof and wired to the existing light nice and bright now.

Normally the higher the number the larger the diode or at least it's always been like that in my experience dealing with them

5m? Have you got a pic of it in the dark?

As I was contemplating just a couple of 30cm strips in the centre of the roof either side of the existing light.

i fancied hard wiring into the wiring loom but decided against it and got some led fog lamps n mounted them (one above sliding door and one near the back door) simply connected them to a wee architrave light switch n mounted this on my bulkhead in the back n simply took a flex into my cig lighter so when i need them i just plug it in n switch the switch.........

hope that makes sense. lol
